THE COMMISSION

A self-initiated research and visual project, this series investigates how spatial safety and relational trust allow Black men to lay down public performance. The project documents private gatherings, communal rituals, and quiet environments where interiority and brotherhood are expressed without restriction.

FIELDWORK & DIRECTORIAL METHOD

Built on long-term relationships and deep contextual trust, the method relies on embedded observation rather than directed poses. Operating with medium format film systems, sittings are conducted within natural gathering spaces—living rooms, private studios, backyards, and civic halls. The camera acts as an attentive witness, prioritizing emotional truth, subtle gesture, and atmospheric warmth.
