CASE STUDY: VISITING HOURS
Environmental Documentary · Ongoing Observational Study
An extended environmental portrait series documenting the physical conditions, spatial isolation, and daily routines of creative labor.
Spencer Evans. 2025.
THE COMMISSION
A self-initiated, long-form observational project, Visiting Hours examines the quiet mechanics of creative production. Rejecting polished, promotional "artist portraits," the series investigates the cluttered, disciplined, and often lonely realities of working studio spaces.

FIELDWORK & DIRECTORIAL METHOD
Shot exclusively on medium- and large-format sheet film, the fieldwork requires extended time spent inside workshops, rehearsal halls, darkrooms, and fabrication spaces. The method is deliberately unobtrusive and observational. Attention is paid to natural work rhythms, ambient light variations, tool wear, and spatial geometry—framing creative labor not as romantic genius, but as sustained physical and intellectual endurance.
