ACT & ESSENCE | Archival Portrait Commissions
Act & Essence is a site-specific portrait practice engineered for permanence, publication depth, and historical record. Operating within institutional suites, private settings, and community gatherings, each sitting offers a deliberate studio environment where subjects receive active theatrical direction under high-production lighting—yielding refined, high-fidelity portraits built to endure.
Depending on the cadence and scale of the environment, sittings are created with medium-format film, 4x5 sheet film, digital medium format, or responsive 35mm and high-resolution full-frame systems. Every image undergoes meticulous post-production, color grading, and archival finishing—delivering master digital archives built for publication, historical preservation, and fine-art gallery output for host institutions, foundations, and private patrons.

Future 50 (2023)
WaterFire Arts Center · RI Humanities
Commissioned by RI Humanities for their 50th anniversary 50 Fest, this interactive installation combined high-fidelity portraiture with public authorship. Participants contributed written reflections directly onto a seamless studio backdrop, creating a participatory archive that paired 6x7 medium-format film and digital medium-format systems with vintage optics to establish a lasting institutional visual record.
PVD 2031 Strategic Plan Forum (2023)

Commissioned by lead curator Shey Rivera in partnership with the Providence Department of Art, Culture + Tourism, this portrait installation brought a complete studio setup directly into a public strategic planning forum at the Providence Public Library. Working with both 6x4.5 medium-format analog film and digital medium-format systems under controlled lighting, the sitting documented residents, artists, and visionaries shaping the city’s long-term cultural vision.
Amos House Block Party (2023)
The Amos House Garden · Amos House
An open-air mobile studio deployed directly into an urban community celebration in the Amos House Garden. Photographing neighbors, advocates, and community members with high-speed 35mm film systems under high-production outdoor lighting, the sittings underwent full post-production finishing to deliver an elevated, publication-grade record of community dignity.
